Chavie, I am totally with you on this and am grateful to know someone else has these same reservations! A friend I'm working with uses ChatGT and it is amazing to see what it can do but I feel like it's cheating somehow - like I'm outsourcing my thinking and taking a shortcut that doesn't make anybody any smarter!! I love your posts and your courage.
I happen to agree wholeheartedly, AI gives me the creeps if I am honest. I also think the brain is a muscle and the more humans rely on outside tools for everything the less they think and use their own creative powers - and those "muscles" atrophy. As i read somewhere - before we work on artificial intelligence let's first deal with human stupidity.
I definitely agree with you on this opinion, with reservations. I was reading an "old" (1979) novel and about how they had to do research on a person to see if they were legit or not and had to find books and go to the library (remember that place? LOL), etc and rely so heavily on what other people knew and who to contact, etc. Today you can "Google" anyone and find out way too much about them. I don't like all the advancements and when people use AI or ChatGPT and make it out as if its their own. I strongly think there should be a disclaimer somewhere that this is generated by technology and not a human, like a signature. the day will come (if it hasn't already) where innocents will suffer because a computer can make up stories about them. It does scare me. But I'm older than you and things like "being seen during a phone call" scared me once, too!!! LOL
Well said, Chavie! You get it! Thank you for the time, effort and energy you expended articulating this issue! I get why you don't talk to Siri! I don't ask my phone questions, either. Yeah, I'm old school and BTW, I did stop at the library today to return a book (about the Crazies - learned much more Montana history than I bargained for when I checked it out two weeks ago!) Keep up the good work!
